Module One

Module one focuses on conflict mitigation and management mechanisms– a collection of arrangements used by conflict parties to mitigate or manage conflict violence outside of a formal peace process. We focus specifically on conflict mitigation measures, restrictions on hostilities, truces and battlefield management arrangements. We discuss what they are, why they are used, and how they relate to the peace process.

Additional Resource: “Local Mediation Efforts in the Prisoner and Detainee File – Taiz”

This video is a short documentary video highlighting the importance of past and ongoing local mediation efforts in the prisoner and detainee file between the parties to the conflict in Taiz governorate. The success of these efforts is demonstrative of the critical role local mediators are playing in Yemen’s broader peace process.

This video is produced by the Youth Mediation Support Team (YMST), as part of its initiative to support prisoner exchange mediators in Taiz, and inform the public on the humanitarian nature of independent local mediation and how it plays an important role in building confidence between the warring parties.

The Youth Mediation Support Team is overseen by DeepRoot Consulting as part of the European Union-funded project A New Generation of Public Leaders in Yemen. The team is comprised of politically independent young peacebuilders devoted to bolstering local mediation efforts in Yemen.
